2 - Stripping

In this section, we'll be removing all of the parts that the designer of the D78 added to get the paper path to come in vertically, as well as the ink-devouring pump.

First to go is the paper tray.

Just lever it's pin hinge out on the right hand side and then lift it out. Keep the tray, we'll be needing it later.

Remove the screws from the left and right sides of the head support.

Remove the two screws from the bottom of the head support. You may find it easier to remove the pulley assembly first. Just compress the spring slightly - The belt will then be able to slide off towards you. Be careful to not allow the spring or the pulley assembly to escape.

Temporarily remove the spring which forms an earth link to the front metal panel.

Do the same for the earthing spring at the left hand side of the printer.

Remove the power supply and stepper connectors from the mainboard.

Free the eccentric paper feed roller from it's support.

A top view of where we should be at in the disassembly.

Remove the two screws holding the movable portion of the paper path.

Remove the screw holding the eccentric paper feed roller.

Free the clip holding the pump mechanism.

Carefully detach the hose going to the waste sponge.

Move the pump out of the way.

It's free!

Spare parts.

At the rear of the printer, free this clip to allow the movable part of the paper path to be removed.

There! Wasn't that easy. We now have the D78 without that annoying ink-eating pump and ready for the next operation - 3 - Carving
