7 - Feed tray
Ever want to help the planet? Well, you're just about to. Instead of buying
more parts, we'll reuse the existing feed tray from the D78 in a different
orientation.
Firstly, you're going to need something firm going through the paper path to
support the tray in it's new position. Here, I've used a 3.5mm thick piece
of steel. Use whatever you have to hand - But it must be stiff! It also must
be long enough to fit through both the back and front rollers.
Now that you have your reference line heading through the paper path,
Attempt to slide the tray onto the support. You can now see much better if
there is any more trimming required below the tray.
Trim until you have a nice support surface under the tray.

Now, it's time to start with the hot melt glue! Here, we are attaching the
right side to the pillar. It doesn't have to flip or move, so it's just a
straight glue joint.

On the other side of the tray, you will need something similar to this. I
cut it from the remainder of one support column, if I remember correctly.
Thanks for all of the spare bits of plastic, Epson!

As you can see, I cut about 5mm too much from the bottom of the feed path.
If you happen to do this as well, the cardboard which supported the power
cable, etc, from the box will help form the support.

Plenty of glue! A word of warning here - Do not let the glue drip forward
like I have done. It will get in the slot for the adjustable paper size
lever and will not be fun to clear out. Guess how I know?

Did I say plenty? MORE GLUE!

We're now one step closer to having this printer ready to do something it
was never meant to!
